Re-defining Resilience: Growth Through Adversity
Challenges and change are inevitable; being defeated is optional. Resilience isn’t simply about bouncing back or enduring to breaking point: it’s how we recharge, prepare and move forward together – even when we can’t see the top of the mountain.

Re-defining Resilience: Growth Through Adversity
Challenges and change are inevitable; being defeated is optional. Resilience isn’t simply about bouncing back or enduring to breaking point: it’s how we recharge, prepare and move forward together – even when we can’t see the top of the mountain.
Drawing lessons from his Everest adventures and personal experiences, Alex will share his tools for staying resilient through adversity, how coaching and mentoring transformed his life, and why looking after ourselves is key to empowering others.
ABOUT
Alex Staniforth is a record-breaking adventurer, ultra-endurance athlete, author and charity founder from Chester, England, who is no stranger to overcoming challenges. At 29 he has already survived the two biggest disasters in Mount Everest history as a teenager. However, his biggest challenges have been closer to home: with mental ill health, epilepsy, stammering and bullying since school.
Alex never allowed this to become his identity – only his experience. Re-framing adversity as an opportunity for growth has given him a unique drive to help others achieve their own ‘Everest’. Through his adventures he has raised over £100,000 for charity, become the fastest person to climb all 100 UK county tops, published two books ‘Icefall’ and ‘Another Peak’ and in 2022 was awarded a Points of Light award from the Prime Minister. Alex believes that everyone should have access to our ‘Natural Health Service’ and in 2020 he founded Mind Over Mountains, an award-winning charity to restore mental health through outdoor experiences alongside professional coaching and counselling.

So many leaders that I coach tell me that they experience some version of ‘imposter syndrome’. So many leaders are juggling huge complexity and volume – some even talk of a ‘burn out epidemic’, and all of us are facing the challenges of living with climate change. An EMCC Master Practitioner and leadership consultant for over 20 years, Becky Hall will talk about:
